The Thursday Thinker: Skip IUI’s and go Straight to IVF?

Are you in a situation that the doctor’s are telling you the next step is an IUI (Intra-Uterine Insemination) BUT you really believe it won’t work and you want to go ahead and try IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization)? What are you basing your decision on? Are there some medical conditions that respond less well to IUI but have a higer success rate with IVF? Do you feel like you would be wasting your precious time on an IUI or are you optimistic that the IUI would work and save you the high cost and complications of IVF? What do you think?

  1. This is a great question that I’m pondering now. I think the appeal of IUI is that it is SO MUCH cheaper than IVF. Having Stage IV endo I’d probably respond better to IVF, but what if? Also, I recently got pregnant NATURALLY (though it ended in miscarriage) which gives me more hope that IUI could work for me. Eh, who knows though!?

    • It is so hard to know what to do! It is hopeful that you got pregnant naturally, I’m so sorry you miscarried. Sometimes if age is not a pressing issue IUI is the best place to start. Good luck with your decision!
