The Countdown to Christmas

All right, the guests are set to arrive in one hour.  I think I’m ready.  Not as ready as I would like to be but it will have to do.  There is nothing really cool I saw on Pinterest as a center piece, no new recipes, no papre-bagged candles lining the driveway…the bathrooms are clean and there will be green bean casserole, that’s what I could pull off this year.

Jerad always works a lot over the holidays.  So today, after I had cleaned the whole house, lined the kids up against the wall in the hallway and stated: “Now stand there and don’t touch anything until the company arrives…in 6 hours!” I thought there must be a better way to do this.  For some reason the kids weren’t able to stand there for more than 5 minutes and they wanted to play in the rooms I had just cleaned (go figure) and then they wanted to each lunch (so needy)and after lunch I was back at square one (I gave them popcorn with their lunch…what was I thinking?)  When I look at it this way it makes more sense why I’m so tired:

“Hey lady!  Watch these 6 kids for the next 10 days, they are all really fired-up because its Christmas.  One has special needs and will take a lot of your patience.  Your husband will be working even more the next two weeks.  Oh by the way, clean the whole house and make dinner for 14 people while you watch the kids.  Ok see ya, have a good day!”

I should just accept it is a season of life.  I like to entertain.  I like hosting Christmas and making dinner.  I volunteered to host this year and I don’t regret it.  I like having my family over and Jerad’s family…but I should probably figure out a better way to do it while the kids are still so needy young.

So I’m ready. Just writing this makes me feel better.  The hard part is over and I will enjoy myself the next two days.  I can’t wait to see the kids faces when they open their gifts.  That is one of my favorite parts.

Maybe some year I will be able to make recipes from my Better Homes and Gardens and decorate with tinsel and greet guests with hor dourves and wine.  And “Alice” will take the kids for the day and bring them back at 5:25 dressed and ready for dinner…See I told you I was tired, I must have been dreaming.

Hope your Christmas is enjoyable.  Try to relax and enjoy it!!
