Back in the day, all parents had to do was yell “Clean up your room or I’m going to throw everything away!” then, when their sweet child refused to comply, march into their room with a big black Hefty bag and toss everything that was on the floor. Parents usually only had to do this exercise once before the kid figured out they meaned business.
Now, the threats of today don’t pack as much punch,”Clean up your room or I’m going to donate your stuff to Goodwill, sell your stuff to Once Upon a Child, recylce your stuff and throw your stuff away!” and when it comes time to follow through you have to march into their room with four labeld bags, sort through everything, drive to Goodwill and Once Upon a Child and a whole afternoon later you wonder if it was worth it. Especially when you get back and your kid says, “Can I have the money you made from selling my stuff?”
Ahh, the good ol’ days.
