Yesterday I searched for “Educational Websites” so that my kids can expand their horizons. They have been on the site “Cool Math Games” which sounds educational except for the part that “math” is rarely included in any of the games. They play this game creatively called Red Ball in which a red ball rolls around jumping through obstacles to get points. Then there is Wheely where they try to get a car to roll off bridges to get where it needs to go. No math, just games.
So I thought we would go to National Geogrphic Kids. I set them up, showed them all the cool videos about animals and photos of exotic places then I left to let them explore. When I came back a few minutes later they had found the culturally rich, highly educational game: Beaver Badminton (a game in which two cartoon beavers, you guessed it, play badminton!).
Maybe we will have to go back to those things we had back in our day…books.
