Welcome to my New Website!

“What do you write about?”  people ask. “I write about becoming a mom and being a mom.” I answer.  I want to give hope and compassion to those who are struggling with infertility and loss, but I also want to provide light-hearted encouragement to those who are now moms.  I have decided to combine my two blogs (Barren to Bonkers! ... What Every Mother Wants to Hear

What Every Mother Wants to Hear

We’ve been discussing getting a pet at our house.  Cat, dog, fish…rock.  The conversations have been going on for a while and we (the parents) are just not quite ready to pull the trigger on any big decisions.  So the other day we were driving home from church and I overheard the kids talking about getting a kitten. Child 1: “Oh, kitties are so cute we ... Read More »

The Countdown to Christmas

The Countdown to Christmas

All right, the guests are set to arrive in one hour.  I think I’m ready.  Not as ready as I would like to be but it will have to do.  There is nothing really cool I saw on Pinterest as a center piece, no new recipes, no papre-bagged candles lining the driveway…the bathrooms are clean and there will be green bean casserole, ... Dalmatians at Thanksgiving?

The other night we are all sitting around the dinner table and Cassie gets up, all of a sudden and disappears.  She comes back in a few minutes dressed in her Halloween costume, the dalmatian.  She goes about eating her dinner as if nothing happened. The upside is we have definitely gotten our moneys worth out of Cassie’s costume.  The downside, ... Read More »

Johnny’s Play

We went to the theatre this weekend…at the middle school.  Johnny was in the production of “Adventures of a Comic Book Artist”.  It was a really cute play about super heroes.  Johnny played one of the four super heroes that comes to life after the comic book artist uses a magical pen.  His character was Triple Time (a really fast ... What do People Do in the Evenings?

We have four more days until soccer is over for the season. That means next week, starting on Monday we will no longer have to eat dinner at 4:30 to make sure everyone eats before eve. activities. We will no longer have to play Carpool Amazing Race. We won’t have to plan ahead for going to three different events making ... Read More »

I’ll Be Right Back

When we decided to have six kids I’m not so sure we thought everything through (that would be an understatement). I just finished the June calendar and there are several nights where we have to be in four different places at the same time. Even with our wonderful carpooling arrangements we may have to hire someone to drive and watch ... Read More »

Soccer Tournament Comment Card…Please add Hotwings and Wine Coolers

We had two soccer tournaments this weekend. We’ve been to lots of soccer tournaments over the years, so while we waited for the half-hour delay one of the games I started to brainstorm what would make these events more exciting…for the parents. Sure they bring in jumpy castles and souvenirs for the kids but looking at all those parents, especially ... Read More »

Praised for Dirt

Went to Home Depot today with the girls to get my 5 for $10 mulch (brown of course) and more play sand for the sand box. When we got home I unloaded the bags and hauled them down to the backyard where the girls were anxiously awaiting the new sand. I opened the first bag and the girls were unusually ecstatic, “Thanks mom ... Read More »
